Histogram Binarization Method for Fingerprint Image Enhancement

Fingerprint identification and matching are the most important areas in digital image processing. Fingerprint identification is a prominent method of biometric identification. The quality of the fingerprint image is a significant one for a reliable matching process. The quality of the image can be enhanced at the preprocessing stage of image processing. In this paper we describe a fuzzy modeling approach which may be used for separating the pixel intensities into black and white regions. The proposed algorithm can improve the clarity of ridge and bifurcation of the input image. We compare the result of this algorithm with median filtering and adaptive histogram equalization methods. The binary fingerprint images generated by the Histogram processing reduce the image blur and noises.
